Seriously though, what's the deal with not just being content to affirm your own technology choices, but needing to rubbish others at the same time? |

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/hom...phone/iphone4s I don't think unlocked was ever available for CDMA at purchase time, just GSM. (though vzw and I guess sprint will unlock the gsm side after some time as a customer in good standing with them.) -David |

This is not a I hate Apple thread, there is one of those already in Omni. This is to discuss the new phone.
Would it be rude to point out the title should be "IPhone 5- who's getting one?" |

Does anyone know if you can sync two iPhones to the same iTunes account? Could I do that on both these phones and still account same apps/music photos, etc! With iCloud sync!
So you would have MR_MAMA's iphone4 and MR_MAMA's iphone5 in itunes and in icloud for backups. -David |
Not until it works with Tmobile USA and my cheap internet plan.

Hardware is a reasonable incremental improvement, but iOS 6 is the real let down. Maps may have potential for the future, but the 3D feature that they make so much of is only available in major US cities currently.

unlocked current iphones are usually $649 in the base size, so that's a $100 reduction. Though we don't know what the unlocked price of the iphone 5 will be. I'm guessing $649 for the base size.

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/hom...phone/iphone4s I don't recall the original 4s prices but I see it's priced higher at bestbuy, @ $699? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26...t_desc=REPLACE |
Do we know whether the new iPhone 5 maintains the old SIM or goes with a Nano SIM. All the prerelease stuff said nano, but the picture I saw looked like a micro.

Vz for sure did sell factory unlocked version. And I just chatted with Vz on-line CS and they quoted 'old/current' prices. They said adjustment would be made once iPhone actually releases, so I guess must wait till Sept 21 to see if they reduce their iphone 4s to $549.

Yep. My 4 is stating to show its age a bit and unlocked iPhones still sell for a decent price on fleabay. Now if AT&T would process my unlock request.....

Other than its Lightning connector, 4G LTE, bigger screen and a 1.2 MP front camera, it doesn't really differ in a big way to the 4S.
it's almost exactly the same. |
The XPRT is the only Android phone that's ever made it through, and that was touted with the same "enterprise-class security", so this new one may make it. TMobile just won't work for me though. |

Instinctively, I'm underwhelmed by the iPhone5 and the iOS6 (the absence of easy access to the toggle switches for wifi/bt is starting to get mildly annoying). And might consider either sticking to my iPhone 4 for another year, or grab a SGSIII / HTC equivalent for a year.
Need to do more research and see if my instincts are right. |

Or buy at your favorite Apple Retail Store starting at 8:00 a.m. on September 21. |

a bit annoying that they couldn't package LTE for all the bands in there - I'd like a phone that can do what it does in the USA as well as it does back home in Australia.
I'm not crazy on the screen size change, I liked that everything was the same aspect ratio. I would've happily taken all the other goodies and had them stuffed into the casing for a 4, even if it was slightly fatter (though the length change isn't all that much). Battery life increase is a plus. If I do upgrade while it is still the 5 and not 5s, I'll be waiting for the untethered jailbreak. I'm quite happy with the 4 on iOS 4.3.3 (a few tweaks I like don't work on iOS 5) |

yeah sure, same itunes account can have multiple devices, each device has a different name, the backups are separate, but they can both share the same photostream, same or different apps, same or different media or all shared through icloud, same phonebook entries, etc, etc.
So you would have MR_MAMA's iphone4 and MR_MAMA's iphone5 in itunes and in icloud for backups. -David |

it's almost exactly the same. The 5 has the same resolution and pixel density [just a wider aspect ratio], the same amount of memory and storage capacity, and only the front-facing facetime camera is [slightly] improved - the main camera is the same. |

I am underwhelmed. Clearly the era of smartphone innovation is over. It is off to the commodity market. As Amazon has noted the profit is in the razor blades now, not the razor. I just wonder how soon it will be before all smartphones are free.
The way things are going, Apple appears headed toward niche status. It's like Mac vs. Windows all over again. |

As you didn't mention them, I assume you agree with the other 14 improvements? I does say "iPhone" though - heck, just like the original one. Where's the innovation??? |

Apple's cachet won't last long if competitors keep leapfrogging Apple hardware. (See Samsung.) Already the Galaxy S3 has been outselling the iPhone 4S.
(though a quick Google shows Samsung projecting 30 million sales this year (May-Dec, 8 months), the "slowing" 4s sold 35 million last quarter (3 months)) |

Man, don't people have iFatigue? They keep dropping new products that are marginally better than their previous versions, and people line up to buy them. Good for them, but I'm bored with Apple. Gonna wait for the new Blackberry 10 with the keyboard, if it ever comes out.

Correct on resolution (should have been increased pixel count)- incorrect on all the others, based on everything I've read (I didn't say anything about storage). 1GB RAM, panorama/improved noise reduction/sapphire crystal rear camera, 1.2MP front camera.

I'm up for upgrade on Sprint now. The release of the iPhone 5 now has me sort of looking at the 4S. It's already at $50 with a 2-yr re-up...probably soon to be $0.
I've been pretty happy with my Galaxy S. My other option is probably to stick it out for the next round of Androids to come out and then get an S3. At some point I'd like to organize my media around a cohesive ecosystem...that's what had me looking at Apple to begin with. But lately I've been thinking a bit more about Amazon and just staying with Android for phones. |

Our 3+ year old Blackberries are starting to give up the ghost and we've suffered some major CS lapses from T-Mo in the last 6-12 months or so. Plus, we've seen a bit of bill creep over the years (my fault, not T-Mo's, I know) that has pretty much made our T-Mo bill nearly equal to projected Verizon bill with two new iPhones. While I've always appreciated T-Mo's cheap turn-on/turn-off international email (formerly all data) roaming, I'll miss it when we switch over (likely to Verizon) to iPhone 5. |
