BBC iplayer

For those of us who use ipad and iphone to watch entertainment when flying, the new update is available;

This means that you can now download bbc iplayer content and watch it offline ^^^^ Downloads last 30 days and are free, reports suggest the Android update will follow soon.

And for those who want to connect from outside the UK this works like a charm. Unlike other solutions, this works without VPN access so it doesn't suffer speed problems.

Yup, got the download last night too. Think this is a very nice move, and free, which is great... (well, licence fee!)

I had updated the app last night, but hadn't looked at it after doing so. This is major improvement.

A fantastic development, which means I can sneakily connect my iPad to the work wi-fi and download at much faster speeds.

I'm a very happy ex-pat.

For those of us with Macs. Get iplayer automator is an alternate route for getting iPlayer material into iTunes.

Windows users can use a command line version - get_iPlayer

But this won't work with the new functionality being discussed here...

The BBC man in charge of this was on the PM programme last night. Apparently if you use the Iplayer on on Apple machine you dont have to finish watching it within 7 days like you do on a Windows machine you have 30 days. Also, he did promise that at some stage you would also be able to download BBC radio programmes but wouldnt be drawn on the date.

Excellent news. Streaming iPlayer on my phone is excellent; trying to start the iPlayer app on a tablet just links to the iPlayer website at the moment!

No, I should have been clearer. It's a useful addition for those using the online version (who travel outside the UK forgetting to download a program) and still want to connect and watch it.

I tried to download and was redirected to UK apple store. Tried to log on but denied access to UK store. Does one have to register somewhere?

Thanks for any help.
