WIFI printer with drivers for both PC and MAC

Our old printer died over the weekend (message said the printer head was damaged).

We had a spare Dell printer in the closet that came along with a laptop, so in the printer emergency I was able to get it set up fairly quickly on the PC , but Dell doesn't have drivers for the Mac.

Can anyone recommend a WIFI printer that one can use with both a PC and a Mac?? (The PC is a desktop, and the Mac is an Air.)

Drivers for most printers are built in to a Mac. Just plug it in and see what happens. Otherwise any modern WiFi printer will work on both. We have a nice HP scan/print/fax machine at home with a 7" tablet built in.

Not apparenlty Dell, which seems to have something against Mac, from reading the blogs.

I have a Canon PIMXA 882 which I love (I'm a Mac user).

My sister has a slightly different model which we can't get to print wifi. I looked on the web and Canon has a problem with the drivers for that model. I'm sorry I don't know the model number. It looks very much like mine.

My older HP c4795 works with both. I'm sure newer ones will too.

For $92 on Amazon, I pickup up the Brother MFCJ825DW, which supports PCs, Macs, and other interesting print options like Google Cloud Print and Apple's Airprint (print directly from iPad, iPhone, etc.). I've been happy with it's speed, setup, and cross-platform performance. My only complaint so far is that the paper tray is small (100 pages) and loading the tray is a bit painful. I also have a laser printer for big jobs.

I faced the same issue--I wanted a multifunction printer and picked the HP 8600. It seems like a nice printer--sets up easily with both mac and pc--and it does air print: way cool for printing from iphone/ipad

Canon PIXMA 885, or HP 8600 ?

Interesting. I'm currently choosing between a Canon PIXMA 885 and an HP 8600. Posters are recommending both here.

- scan (color) is important to me
- print inc. color (eg Powerpoint slidesets) has to be of suitable quality for my consultancy clients.
- the fax feature on both is unimportant.

I like my kit to last a while. It also needs to be able to deal with large amounts of work interspersed with weeks of not doing much, without all the ink in it drying up and costing me! Does anyone have any preference / can you help me distinguish between them or any adjacent print/scan/copy model that's as good, please?

Have a model similar to the HP 8600 and it is good for intermittent printing/copy a few times a month. Build quality seems solid. Quick start-up, too.

How long does the ink last?

You've probably bought it by now, but I have a Brother HL-2270DW that works great wirelessly with either Windows or Mac. Cost per page is lower than most lasers if you get the hi-yield toner cartridge. Output is fast, quality seems good, duplex works well. Available for under $100 if you look around.
