After reading this description I am convinced that the whole incident was fabricated for publicity:

"They were waiting on the side of the road and enjoying a McDonald’s meal."

But you know in HK, there are people just to line up for the sake of line up. They don't even know what they are line up for. I guess supply and demand, mainland chinese still willing to pay top $$ for it. Walking from the star ferry to IFC was chaotic.

That particular Apple Store is really striking; you can see it from many places in town and it stands out, all white and spare. The people in the pictures are hanging out on the elevated walkways that connect up much of downtown. And it's true, you see lines and gatherings on those walkways fairly often, I'm never quite sure what's going on.
