ad blocker for IE

My computer is running XP with IE8. I've had IE7Pro for years; but the ad blocker, which is the feature I installed it for, quit working. Any recommended ad blockers to use with IE8? (I use another browser sometimes but still need IE for several sites.)

Can't recommend anything for IE. For Firefox, nothing beats the combo of .......+ and Ghostery.

Like Global said, go with Firefox and then get Adblocker Plus on it. You'll never look back at using IE again.

Doesn't anyone actually READ the posts any more?

"I use another browser sometimes but still need IE for several sites"

In other words, saying "switch to Firefox" is not a solution the OP is looking for.

To clarify, Admuncher is browser agnostic -- it'll block ads from any app that you want, including all browsers. I've been using it for years.

I probably should have made my thought complete. I was NOT recommending FF for OP, but noting that that's the only combo that I've found to work well.

I can't recommend anything for IE because I have yet to find anything that works with IE and works well.

Take Admuncher for their 30 day demo, then see whether you feel it is worth the investment. Privoxy may be a free option you can consider:

http://www.privoxy.org/

Or, you can edit your hosts file, but that only removes limited kinds of content.

I just use a mix of a hosts file (which works with all of my browsers, if you turn the built-in-DNS off on Chrome) and turning up my security settings.

I’ve used Admuncher for seven years, on IE, FF and Chrome. One of the best software purchases ever. I’ve seen some these sites without Admuncher; not sure how people can put up with noise?

My Android custom ROM has built-in ad blocking (different type of ads).

Same here. Really can't use a computer without it.
