Cheaper iPad like experiences

Looking to get a iPad like device for my daughter. Doesn't warrant the expenses of real iPad.

Anyone have any experiences. Basically for surfing, email, movies...

The ViewSonic gTablet sells for ~250 - 280 these days via Woot / Amazon / eBay / Tiger Direct. It's a fantastic tablet with dual core CPU.

I bought one for my daughter and she loves the thing to death.

I have an iPad 2 and I still really love the gTablet.

Most vendors (Android tablets, HP, RIM, etc) seem to be competing more on features than price, so I don't think you'll save that much by going with another vendor, and then you have to factor in what apps are available, etc.

There are certainly other options out there, but I don't think cost savings is the main reason to choose something else.

After reasarching, looks like the GTablet with a custom ROM is the way to go. ^

I was about to second the Nook color and root it and then put a custom ROM on there, but good luck

Really loving my Asus eee tab Transformer. Especially now that the update to Android 3.1 is available. Got the 16gb version for $399 plus a 32gb class 10 sdhc for $79. 48gb for $478 is a much better value than the iPad and I like the OS better.
