Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; U; CPU OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J3 Safari/6533.18.5)

So today was my first attempt at giving a presentation with an iPAD. I spent most of yesterday converting from Power Point to Keynote and checking the presentation on the iPad with a projector. Fortunately I had a PP version on a USB. I down loaded the PP version to the computer the meeting had set up and then changed the cable on the projector to my iPad. First problem, my Keynote Remote, which had worked before failed. Minor problem, changed slides on the iPad. About 10 or 15 slides into a 45 slide presentation and Keynote crashes. Try a restart of Keynote which is fine but when I go to projector mode nothing appears on the screen. 160 people in the audience so some lame commentary on technology and puppet shows while I rewire for the PC and fire up PP.

So what happened and is there a way to fix it. I went through it multiple times with a projector yesterday with no problems. I wasn't on AC power and in the practice I was going fast but here it was slower while I talked. Is there a setting while on battery that I need to change. Presentation was about 18 mb, is that a problem? The slide it was going to at the time of the crash had a big jpeg on it. In practice runs it would pause there. Would making a smaller JPEG help? Any thoughts or experience would be appreciated. Thanks.

I think it all comes down to poorly made software. I've heard of a lot of people trying to do a presentation on an iOS device, but rarely hear of someone trying it a second time.

I've tried a variety of options, from old Windows Mobile devices and projector based USB storage to the iPad, and I always end up back with my PC.

I've never had a problem with a Mac but that might be it. I will try again tomorrow. Damn shame if it won't work. It is great for travel obviously. Thanks.

I had some crashing when keynote first came out, but haven't in a while. I DO disabled the sleep function on the ipad when doing a presentation from the device, I think that the VGA or HDMI out and power to it doesn't like when the device goes to sleep.

Anyone figure out how to use a mouse? I figured out how to use my Citrix connection to access my presentation on our sever so I don't need to store on the IPad, but I need a mouse or touch pad to be able to right click/double click. Suggestions?

I use QuickOffice with dropbox but usually will transfer the ppt to the IPad locally to be safe. No issues doing ppt through QuickOffice for me

+1 for QuickOffice.

Never a problem + 'built in' laser pointer.

We're considering an iPad for presentations. Is there an adapter to use it with VGA?

Yes. The video mirroring only works with the iPad2. You might want to try before you buy.

An original iPad will display Keynote to a remote projector through the VGA adaptor. You don't need am iPad2 although the iPad2 may display differently.

You can use the HDMI adapter or the VGA out to mirror an iPad I with DisplayOut. It costs $2.99 from the Cydia app store.
