Bringing my US kindle to UK- can I buy books there?
I have tried to buy some books on Amazon UK site but it doesn't let you when the kindle is from the US.
When I go to the UK with my Kindle will I be able to buy books there?
Is there another way to access titles avail on the UK site with my Kindle?

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to download US books. I installed the Kindle app for my iPad from the UK AppStore, but when I look for books all I see are titles listed in USD.

Depends where you have your account.
My Kindle is a US import into the UK and was originally on the US store. When the Kindle launched in the UK we were given the opportunity to buy books from the UK store at UK prices. Which were cheaper than the US, so I switched. The option is still there.
So, if you're staying in the UK and want to move everything into , then swap away. If you're just visiting, stick with the US store. You also get the US version of books - which have the right colors for you, or just shades of gray on the Kindle

Most important question is which Kindle do you have? IF you have a 3G (AT&T Kindle) or a Wi-Fi Kindle, you'll be able to access your US store on the Kindle and the books will arrive on the device. The old CDMA Kindle will not work as it never had Wi-Fi.

Hmm, home come my Kindle app which I downloaded from the UK AppStore shows USD prices? Do they look at your IP (right now I'm in Singapore) and base it on that? Because otherwise I'm wondering why I'm not seeing UK books/prices...

I have a Kindle 3 with 3G that I bought in the USA in November last year. Since then, I've used it in 11 countries including the UK. It works in all of them using Wifi. I've only tried the 3G in a few countries - I don't remember exactly which but I'm pretty sure the UK was one of them. It worked in all I've tried. The user experience is exactly the same as being in the USA. Prices are always listed in USD, and the selection of books available is (as far as I can tell) the same as in the USA.

Not over CDMA, of course, but you can buy the book on your computer, download the file to your computer via a web browser, and transfer it via USB to the Kindle.

I have the wifi 3G one.
The issue is that as its registered in the US, I can't buy books on the UK Amazon site. Was hoping that I could as there are some not available here that I would like. They also have different free books at times.
Evidently you can only buy kindle books in your country of residence Amazon site.
I have found that I would have to change the country and address associated with my Kindle in the Manage your Kindle section to be able to do this.
I do use both sites lately but have yet to be able to complete a kindle purchase due to the restrictions which is annoying at times.

When Kindle launched in the UK, I was allowed to transfer to the UK site.
I still have the option to switch between stores, but it means moving my whole Kindle account over.
If you create an account on the UK store (or try loggin in with your US credentials) you may also be able to move.
However - for a few free books, I'm not sure it's worth the trouble. I have more than enough to read on the UK Store.

I just download the books onto my computer when abroad and then transfer with the usb charge cable. works fine - but yes, one needs the computer.
I have bought directly on the ipad though, amazon kindle books, when using wifi abroad.

I've owned a couple Kindles now and also use the application on my computer and iPhones all over the world on numerous trips (live in Beijing and LA). I've never had a problem buying books from the US store. I think the main thing is to just buy them from the store (US/UK) that has your account and make sure you sign your Kindle into that one.
