Sync Gmail calendar with iPad2

It took about 2 hours of technical assitance at the Apple store, but they finally were able to get my Gamil calendars to sync with my new iPad2,

I use my Gmail calendar for several different categories......those of you who also use it, will understand ..... the various categories are color-coded.
  • Travel - dark blue
  • Birthdays/Anniversaries - orange (celebration)
  • Medical appts and chemo - red (for blood )
  • Appts around the house - green
  • and so on

After using Gmail calendar for over 3 years now, I have become used to those colors. I can look a month ahead and know to whom I need to send birthday cards. I can look a week or two ahead and know when I have to travel.

Unfortunately, when the calendars synced to my iPad, the colors did not match. On my iPad:
  • Travel - green
  • Birthdays/Anniversaries - brown
  • Medical appts and chemo - purple
  • Appts around the house - yellow
  • and so on

The guy spent another 45 mins trying to get the colors to match ..... and as he was giving up, I had to leave for an appointment.

Now, the on-line colors do not match with my iPad. Does anyone know how to select or set specific colors on my iPad calendar?????

I know .... I could change the colors on my on-line Gmail calendar to match the iPad.....that is easily accomplished. But it would take several weeks to learn the new color scheme.

Advise from anyone?

Not sure why it took you and your friends two hours. Nonetheless ...

About all you can do is predict the order of assignment of 5 colors in the calendar app. The iCal app on the mac lets you pick any color, but not so with the ios apps.

search for "blue" on this page: http://www.google.com/support/forum/...hl=en&start=40

Only add one calendar at a time. The first one you add will be Blue. Allow the iPad to sync. Then one by one add your other calendars, allowing the iPad to sync each time (exit the Calendar app after sync; when you start it again it will sync again). iPad will assign colors in this order: Blue, Red, Green, Orange, and lastly, Purple. If you don't want one of the colors create a dummy calendar to get that color assigned to it.
So, I guess that means if you don't like the color assignments, you would have to remove them all and then add them back in the order you want the five colors assigned. I'm guessing you aren't going to want to do that. Calendar import from google calendar is not that hard in ios, since both ios and google support exchange, but I guess the multiple calendars aspect complicates it a bit for you.

There is an excellent iPhone app called Week Cal which replaces the stock Calendar app with a better interface, and lets you choose the color for each calendar. I am not sure whether it's available for iPad, but it's a must-have for iPhone.

Hi David LIH Prem -- it was not my friends. It was the experts at the Apple Store.

I went back today, and it took them about 30 mins to undo what the guy did yesterday and set it up again.

I only use techy things....I know nothing about the set up!

Guess the Apple store guys aren't always the 'geniuses' they claim to be?

Took me less than 5 mins to set up my 5 google calendars to sync with my Ipad 2. Simply followed the instructions given on the calendar website!

The colours didn't match here either, but life's too short to worry about that
