Exactly.

If you just need to read/print Word files then all you need is the free reader from Microsoft.

As for Mac users who want to use OpenOffice, I support the recommendation to use NeoOffice instead. This is basically OpenOffice in a finer, streamlined package. And it's still free.

I use Google Docs for simple stuff, but If I need to do real work, there is no substitute for Word/Office.

It would be great if Open Office was anywhere close to MS Office, but there's no comparison for my use.

By the way, I believe that LibreOffice is the name of the fork where all the Open Office developers went.
