Searching found only a thread from 2007, so I figured time for a new one.

I have a variety of passwords that I use on different websites, but I do reuse some of them in several places. I know that's unwise, and I'd like to tighten things up. But that means some software or website solution to manage the passwords, since there would be more than I can remember.

My requirements: I need to access from at least two machines, my home desktop and my laptop, plus occasionally from some other device, like a friend's cell phone or a coffee shop computer. And I don't want to have to carry around a flash drive. Inexpensive is preferred, free even better.

Thoughts? What do y'all use. What features do you like or dislike?

I am VERY happy with Lastpass. Essentially free, unless you want the
iPhone/iTouch edition ... then it's $1/month.

It automagically syncs across my XP, Mac & iTouch.

Look at a program called Roboform. It is computor based and has a free web site, roboform online.

I use keepass and have for several years. There is a version that requires no installation and can be run from a usb drive, and android and iPhone versions.

I have to manually sync between desktop and phone, but it is pretty easy.

Stores passwords, urls, and other info.

I love free software, but Roboform was one product that I happily shelled out ~$25 to purchase. Love it, love it, love it. I'm not the kind of person who clicks on spammy links, etc., but the fact that I can have a different -- and difficult -- password for each and every website I visit gives me a very high level of confidence that if I somehow get hacked/a website I've used gets hacked, my other logins are safe. I also use the function to encrypt all of my Roboform passwords, so each time I boot/unlock my computer, I must enter a master password to access my passwords. In other words, I have to remember one difficult password and Roboform remembers hundreds of them for me.

Wallet and 1Password work pretty well. Both on OS X. 1Password is available for the mobile devices too I think.

Yeah, I have 1password syncing (through dropbox) between two Macs, an iPhone, an iPad, and a Nexus One. The android version is a bit janky in comparison to iOS, but what isn't?

There's a PC/Windows version also.

I have used RoboForm on my desktop for years and love it.

Recently installed DataInherit on Mrs JT8D's and my iPhones to hold all of the travel related passwords we seem to collect and need in far places. The free version will hold 50 passwords, is web based, and synchs between our desktop, Macbook, and both iPhones. Beautiful program and no more complicated to use than a screwdriver. Highly recommend.

I use Keepass.

My database is stored in a DropBox directory. Because I don't fully trust Dropbox, Keepass is configured to use both a password AND a keyfile (which is NOT stored on dropbox)

That covers my "normal" system use case - both the database and the keyfile exist on my normal machines. If I'm setting up a new machine, DropBox will bring in my Keepass database, and I manually copy in the keyfile either from another system, or from a USB key.

My phone (Nokia) doesn't support either DropBox or the current format of Keepass, so it's a manual process to export the database to it occasionally, and hope I don't need anything else in the interim...

If I really need to access it on another computer such as a Coffee Shop I can (via DropBox website), but unless it was an absolute emergency I wouldn't - there's just too much chance of keyloggers and the like which could steal the entire database and the password.

Keepass is the only one I use, and have used in the last 6 years. On my Android phone, USB, and PCs. It's free and open source. I even donated money to the developers because it's so useful and great.

Another vote for Roboform - use it on the PC at work, Win7 laptop and macbook and it keeps them all in sync and works perfectly, even when offline.

Like the previous poster, it's not often I spend my own money on software, but I'd buy this one again and again, it's great.

Yet another vote for Roboform.

I have been using 1Password synced via Dropbox. Works well especially paired with the great iPad app.
