Warning -security tools virus
I recently (yesterday) went to a link from google news article (which I thought would be safe) that purported to offer a 2 day 25-27 free dowload of a program that allowed ripping dvds to any format.
I downloaded but did NOT open it. Well apparently it downloaded a REALLY nasty virus which took me hours to clear up.
Sorry - I can't remember the name of the program and it's gone from my download as I restored to an earlier date. But if you're tempted BEWARE.

Yes - that sounds familiar. It could have been a coincidence - but it was the only thing I downloaded. It is a REALLY nasty virus (and apparently has been around a while in various forms).
Not sure how they could spoof the link since I clicked directly from google news, but that is probably the explanation. Does imedia actually work (wanted something to convert videos so I can see them on my ipad), but I'm probably too scared to try it again.

Yes that's it - remember the need to get the key from facebook and giving my email.
I downloaded it from cnet - and I think the page looked different from the one yesterday - so probably I did get hit by a spoof - but still afraid to open it.
Has anyone actually used iMedia Converter?
