Having a problem with my home desktop PC, when I type a keyword into Google and hit search ...nothing. Internet is working fine, Google is working on my laptop using the same connection via wifi.

PC is running IE8 , Laptop is firefox.
Provider is Comcast
Any Ideas

By "nothing", what do you mean?

A "page cannot be loaded" error?
A blank screen?
No search results returned?

Likely to be spyware affecting your connection to Google. Try Windows Defender or another antispyware program

Try turning the Instant function on if it's off, or off if it's on.

If this is something that just started recently it may be a problem with their update to do instant searches.

Go to the Google.com page, then in the settings, and google account settings, there's a radio button for instant or not.

There are viruses that try to insert their own results into Google search. It may be that. What malware software do you use?

Try clearing your cache. Then install Firefox on the PC, go outside, run around the house three times, stand on your head and swear "I will never use IE ever again!"

Sorry for not being clear, by nothing i meant no search results returned.
I tried clearing the cache and ran my antispyware, still nothing
I think Cordelli might have hit upon it, as after some research I read that Cumcast is having problems with the update.

Thanks for the replies

While you're waiting for Comcast, check your HOSTS file. Lots of malware will modify it. It's found in C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc folder on most Windows versions. It is a text file you can open with Notepad or Wordpad. It should have a single entry, "127.0.01 localhost", and possibly many lines above this that begin with "#" - these are comments.

If your HOSTS file has been modified, delete the garbage lines, save it, and reboot.

My wife and I use Macs, but our daughter has a PC. She got hit with something that tried to redirect all web browser network traffic through some proxy server. Ended up I had to wipe her system clean and reinstall, and put antivirus stuff on it. Sort of forgot about that antivirus stuff when she first got the laptop, since I've not had to use it since I switched to Mac five years ago.

Which is a dangerous viewpoint to have. Macs are not inherently immune to viruses and malware. Rather, it's just that there are relatively few Macs in the market, so virus/malware developers have ignored Macs to date. There's no guarantee that that will continue to be the case, however. You should still exercise caution and not click on everything you see.
