Mac users: alternative to the Apple keyboard?

I have been trying, off and on for a year now, to make myself like and use this tiny, mushy, no-function-key-having, misshapen-keyed Bluetooth thing that came with my iMac. Today I officially give up: I hate this thing, this laptop-keyboard-on-a-desktop. I loathe it like a root canal or a social disease. Some people seem to love it; good for them. I am not one of them nor will I ever become one. I want a real keyboard, with a number pad, and keys that have physical feedback, and all the keys in the correct place and size.

In the last year I've also tried to find a suitable alternative. I thought my list was simple:
- normal size and function
- connect and work correctly over the iMac's built-in Bluetooth (no dongle)
- bonus for having Mac keys but I can live without that
- bonus for having an ergonomic curve but I can live without that

It appears that there is a keyboard mafia at work in the marketplace, leaving only Microsoft and Logitech to produce products (aside from the 9 Chinese crap). I have been through:

- Logitech DiNovo Edge, which wouldn't stay connected to the Bluetooth more than an hour or so
- Logitech Wave for Mac, not Bluetooth, dongle disconnects when I put a mobile phone nearby
- Microsoft Bluetooth 6000, which won't stay connected to the iMac's Bluetooth and also sucks in general but looked nice.
- Some other Microsoft wireless thing with a dongle that also doesn't work

Logitech support is contemptuous and unhelpful; Microsoft just sends form emails that they don't support Macs. As time goes on it appears that there are less Bluetooth keyboards coming onto the market and more "wireless" ones with a crap 2.4GHz dongle.

So, TT people, has anyone seen a good Bluetooth keyboard that actually works with a Mac? At this point I'd almost take a cabled one that works reliably and has good feel. Is IBM still making that noisy thing from a decade ago?

Can you stand to lose a USB port and go with the Kensington wireless? Its a very nice keyboard, good feel, plenty of keys. Doesnt fit in with the design of the unit but you could hide it when company comes over.

It isn't wireless, but would it work to find one of the older iMac keyboards?

Like this one:

I use a Microsoft Entertainment Desktop 8000 - and it never, ever disconnects, but your problems may be related to a faulty Bluetooth adapter?

i'm no fan of the flat aluminum keyboards, but they do have function keys across the top. many of the function keys are dual purpose and control the brightness, volume, etc., but you can disable that in system preferences if you want the fkey keycodes instead, or use the fn key to toggle it on the fly.

any standard usb or bluetooth keyboard will work. you can remap the windows (command), alt (option), control and capslock keys in system preferences if necessary.

I second this suggestion of getting an older mac keyboard, although I'm not really a fan of that particular keyboard model. I don't need a wireless keyboard, so I use this model: http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-Wired-USB-...-/220644371901 But there was a wireless version (bluetooth) available if you can find it.

Thanks everyone - kyung, the one you're referring to is called the Apple Pro Wireless Keyboard and I think it's about as close as I'm going to find to what I want. Now to see if I can track one down...
