whats the difference between @gmail.com and @googlemail.com email addresses?

whats the difference between @gmail.com and @googlemail.com email addresses?

I've always used my gmail acct for personal emails. I decided to sign up for another gmail acct today because I want to have one used exclusively by family only. When I went to gmail.com, I got a @googlemail address instead. Is this something new? Did they run out of @gmail addresses already?

you can use gmail.com or googlemail.com same mailboxes, go ahead and email yourself at that address your just made but do gmail.com instead of googlemail.com and it works.

There is no difference, mail sent to either domain will get to your inbox.

Not sure why it showed one or the other though.

There were a few countries where Google didn't own the trademark for "GMail". If you're from one of those countries they will give you an @googlemail.com address, although as others have pointed out, @gmail.com will still work.

Here's another little interesting GMail tidbit. A period in an address doesn't mean anything.

[email protected] and [email protected] will both go to the same mailbox, assuming anyone has it.

It you or anyone else you know has a GMail address in the form of [email protected] try it and see.

I don't think your pal Mickey will be very happy about you giving out his email address on this board.

Nor will he appreciate the on slot of spam.

Back to the OP's question - were you doing this from work? If so, do you work for a company that might provide your internet access through the UK or Germany?

When you sign up for an account and use a space google will add a dot for you instead of the space. When you login you must use the dot. Email sent with or without the dot will arrive in your inbox.
