"DSL Adapter"

Funny thing. I'm in a hotel room recently, reading over the info-card for How to Connect to the Internet. 'If your laptop has wireless capability, blah blah blah, etc.' Mine does, so I might have just stopped there -- but I kept reading. 'If your computer does not have Wi-Fi, you can use the DSL Adapter provided in the room to connect directly.' Well, I looked around, on the desk, in the drawer, on the shelves, etc. and I didn't see anything that looked like a "DSL Adapter". There were a couple of ports in the wall, including one next to the jack where the phone was plugged in. But they weren't labelled in any way, and there certainly wasn't any device that one would recognise as an "adapter". Finally, consumed by curiosity, I took the info-card down to the front desk and asked the fellow there. "Oh," he said, "don't you have wireless? In that case you need one of these." And he reached under his counter and brought out an ordinary rj-45 ethernet cable. That was their "DSL Adapter"!

cheers,

Henry
