iPhone in the USA

Hi,

My iPhone is unlocked, and I had planned to use mrsimcard.com when I go to SF in August but that has been nerfed and there is no way in hell I am paying $120usd for 300mb of data.

My question is, what if any are my alternatives (calls, texts etc I don't care about at all) but what I need is a decent data cap.

(Could I for example, as I own the device go into AT&T and say I want the iPhone plan and give them my cc details or will they require bank info etc and proof of address)

(Been reading and still reading relevant threads on here)

Any help would be excellent.

Thanks,
UrbanGrafix

There is a lot of free WiFi in the US. So, you should consider that.

You won't love this solution either, but consider iphonetrip.com.

Check THIS out. It's about $60 per month with no contract (unlimited data).

This may not exactly answer your question, though I have to say it is going to be interesting to see what happens with prepaid data now that the iPad3G is out and unlocked and the data is sold at a reasonable rate. If you keep an eye out I wouldn't be surprised if ATT extends these rates to more devices in the near future or that Tmobile feels the pressure to match.

Well, if I decide to upgrade to the new iPhone then I guess I could just get an iPad sim for the data but hopefully something else changes when the new iPhone goes to the micro sims.

The downside of that plan from my quick googling is EDGE speeds, but it would be WAY better than nothing. As all I need is data (I couldn't really care less about calls or texts really as I wont be use any or well many)

Hopefully the new iPhone opens up the options.

Why even bother with trying to get a plan, just pick up a GoPhone sim on ebay. Prepaid data is $19.99 for 100mb...kinda pricey, but if you're using an iPhone you're kinda locked into AT&T for the best experience. EDGE on T-mo is noticeably slower, maps take forever to load. You are just not going to find a "decent data cap" on prepaid.

True but I am unsure how much data that I would need. I plan to use Google Maps a fair bit and using it for Facebook and Email. I guess that I could test it on my phone before I go to gleam some info as to my data needs but dam the data sucks ... lol.
