quick question -- how to upload new apps to iPod Touch without syncing and erasing?
Hi all, just a quick question --
I have an Ipod Touch that I started using with a laptop that I no longer have. I've downloaded lots of apps from the store, and it's no longer in sync with anything.
If I download apps on my new macbook, and want to put them on my ipod touch (via the "sync" function under the "applications" tab), it warns me that it will erase all currently installed applications.
Is there a way just to upload single applications, from a macbook that is not the Ipod's native "synced" home laptop?
Thanks!

ah ok, I will try that, directly downloading using the Ipod. Thanks for the advice.
I forgot to mention that I was trying to do this from the computer because my Ipod Touch refuses to download the new apps without the latest software update ($5, which I only hesitate to do because it's working perfectly fine as it is). But it's probably unavoidable, so I should just do it...

Make sure you are running the current version of itunes. Take a manual backup of your settings/etc in itunes. (In windows, right click on the device, select backup).

After saving the file, in itunes, press shift and either the update or restore button.
Being on 3.1.x is worth it. You can re-arrange the app icons in itunes (eg, moving them from one page to another is very easy there) and there's other nice features.
