I only see that process using CPU time when the nightly scan is running. You sure it's doing it when no scan is in progress?

yeah, I see it sometimes when nothing in the suite is running. And about 30 local services. It is pretty well documented that this can happen.

i have the latest version of firefox,3.5.8, and i notice it still eats up resources.
