I need advice on a set of travel binocs that can fit in a coat/jacket pocket. Good clarity and zoom and easy to use.

Can anyone help?

Not a specific recommendation, but here's a place where you can ask a bunch of people who are pretty serious about their binos:

I use Pentax 9x21 roof prism and those are nice specs for most of my viewing. All the zoom binoc seemed to heavy for most travel.

We have these. We have used them for everything from the opera to a safari in Zambia. Small, very good optics, nice price. Also, the wide opening (25mm) makes them outstanding in low light.

I've found these zoom binoc's pretty good:

Note that at full zoom, light gathering is quite restricted so best for bright days. That said, I carried these into the jungle in the Yucatan and had no problem checking out the howler monkeys in the shade.

The 25mm objective is ok for 8-10x zoom, but as I said it can start to get dark as you approach 16x zoom (plus shake becomes an issue).

Better View Desired is the canonical website for binocular reviews.

Binoculars are very personal. I would decide on a price range, then try as many different models as you can before making a decision.

Ms. birdstrike and myself wouldn't think of going anywhere without binoculars attached, yet we made very different decisions in our choice of optics.

Binoculars can just as easily be used to look at things close up and things far away. Do you wear glasses, for example? Exit pupil is a consideration. There are many points upon which to base a decision.

Check out BVDs guide to choosing compact binoculars. for a start, then this more general guide to optics.
