Empty suitcase

I have to do some traveling and do not need a lot of stuff one way but probably on the return would need all the space. I have a samsonite hard case. It is not a fake. Would it get crushed and get it damaged it is half empty or it does not matter as the cover is strong enough? I know that no matter how strong sometimes it gets damaged due to handling.

I often bring empty suitcases. Often one smaller inside a large one. Never had a problem with damage. I tend to buy decent quality bags, like Kirkland or Travelpro. They often get loaded up to 32kg worth of stuff.

When empty or nearly so, the polycarbonate ones seem to get cracked less often for me during trips as checked luggage than when they are overstuffed. But empty is a bigger risk than partially filled since they get stacked and sometimes even stepped on in ways that lead to cracks.

I use big collapsible duffel bags inside a bigger bag when I am anticipating to transport more weight in one direction than the other. A collapsible duffel bag — perhaps along with a collapsible wheeled dolly — inside a bigger bag would generally work out better for me than carrying one suitcase inside a bigger suitcase.

If not concerned too much about liquid exposure, I prefer more cloth type suitcases in such situations than polycarbonate/hard plastic type ones.

Hi,

I had a samsonite hard case for 20 years. In the first few years I did travel with it lightly packed and once it did a little compressed on the outside but popped it back . Since then it has given me excellent service ( one small wheel has come off ) until Dec last year when the handle came off ( I sometimes probably over packed it ) and often had 27kgs + in it,
Overall it had provided excellent service

Regards

TBS
