Wheeled backpack for carry on

I'm looking for something my wife can either roll or carry on her back that is legitimately carry on size for US and Europe.
the Osprey Ozone looks great but lacks straps. The Sojourn has straps but is too heavy and too large at 24" including wheels.

The ebags TLS convertible wheeled carry on looks good but is almost 9lbs.

Is this as good as it gets, or does anyone have recommendation for something lighter but still of good quality?

Thanks,
H

I prefer two-wheelers for my carry-on and have a couple of the Eagle Creek 20" Lync bags, an older orange one and a newer brown one. The newer one is easier to 'unclip'.

Not the 'prettiest' bag, but it can be wheeled, worn on the back still with the frame/wheels on, and the frame can be removed so just the backpack is used. Straps include a sternum strap. Inside is basic. Comes with a storage bag.

Also comes in a 22in size. For me, the 20in assures me it's okay for some of the airlines where I live (Asia), which are tighter than the US and some of Europe. Also the weight limits here are 7kgs, which is why I had to discount the ebags TLS one. The EC 20" Lync is only 2kgs empty. Not seen the bags TLS so can't compare quality.

Specs:
Capacity: 2220 cu in (36 L)
Dimensions: Bag:14 x 20 x 8 in (36 x 51 x 20 cm)
Bag without Frame: 14 x 19 x 8 in (36 x 49 x 20 cm)
In Stuff Sac: 10.5 x 19.5 x 8 in (27 x 49 x 20 cm)

Weight: Bag w/Frame: 4 lbs 6 oz (1.98 kg)
Frame: 2 lbs 10 oz (1.19 kg)
Bag w/o Frame: 1 lbs 12 oz (0.79 kg)
Straps: 5 oz 0.14 kg

Worth shopping around as I bought the newer one for US$200, not the full price on the EC website.

Other posters will be along with their favs...

I should point out that the Ozone comes in a convertible version, and there is a 22 Sojourn. I apparently don't have enough posts to include links, but searching for "Ozone Convertible 50L" or "Sojourn 45" should get them.

Coincidentally, I also use and Eagle Creek Lync 20, for all the same reasons. I don't think it would do too well checked, but it's fantastic otherwise.

Eagle Creek also released a Morphus in International Carry On size
https://shop.eaglecreek.com/morphus-...CategoryId=131

The Eagle Creek Flatbed duffel also has a shoulder strap option https://shop.eaglecreek.com/quick-snap-strap/d/1397 shown at the bottom Gear Review: Eagle Creek No Matter What Duffels - One Bag, One World

The new Morphus is kind of a combination of the Lync frame and duffel quick snap backpack strap. I think the Flatbed duffel and Morphus would stand up to checking more than the Lync as both have more rigid self-contained back frames.

Rick Steves also has a rolling backpack https://store.ricksteves.com/shop/p/rolling-backpack

I recently saw the classic combination of a non-wheeled backpack bungee'd to a small folding luggage cart.

Looking at the Morphus, it's 3.22 kg, nearly half the carry-on weight limit out here in Asia (7kg). But agreed, it looks more check-in-able than the Lync.

With the Lync, my thinking is that on the planes most I fly, e.g. A380, there is plenty of space in the overheads (I realise this is different in some places, I've just not seen it as necessary on the flights I make) but also if bags do go in the hold, the heavier, often slightly oversized hard shells will go in there first. I'm also already prepared to take the bag off the frame so it looks 100% like a backpack, so (hopefully) less likely to chucked in the hold, which I really don't think it would survive.
