Would be glad to hear suggestions (which make) for a durable 20-21" roller, does not have to be lightweight but not too heavy (carryon weight limits on some flights)

I fly between 50-100 legs a year, so my roller does a fair bit of mileage. Mostly airport, some pavement, a little bit of tarmac.
Having worn out a couple of rollers I thought I'd try a Swissgear - and was not impressed. After a year the retractable handle started acting up, now one of the wheels is wobbling. Poor quality.

Am not looking at something top-shelf like Tumi, was thinking of a trying a Samsonite this time...

Would not recommend Samsonite, the wheels have been a major point of weakness for me, as I tend to overstuff them on short trips. I know you weren't wanting something top shelf, but for a frequent flier, dropping a few extra dollar for a Rimowa or Tumi is well worth it.

Briggs & Riley U119 CX. Lifetime warranty, ultra durable and should have no problem standing up to your frequency of flight. Not too expensive for what you get. I think I paid in the neighborhood of $ 369.00 for it.

I recommend eBags's Mother Lode TLS Mini 21" Duffle on rollers, expandable at 8.5 lbs empty, no questions asked Lifetime Warranty - Mrs. L's primary carry-on and travel bag, overseas & cruises plus road trips, with plenty of room ... conventional or packing cubes to help compress & organize ... trying to keep it at 40 to 45 lbs. net. Internal straps & external ones help to keep it "slim" when not loaded full.

I also use its older cousin, the TLS Convertible 22" that pack equally as much, if not more but the overall weight might be too heavy for many (and, I sometimes take her's & roll it down the corridors & concourses instead - stacking a personal bag or messenger bag on top. These are low keys & hardly anyone noticed it - only wish that "eBag" logo would fade/go away/hide itself, LOL.

With either one going on shorter 2 - 3 nights, plenty of space to put the personal bag or anything else inside, leaving the other hand completely free.

(these are our smaller carry-ons - we also have 22" but usually we use those as checked luggage - I have a B&R 22" but I don't think it's as durable as my EC - but there are many lines and maybe I don't have the heaviest duty)

I have to admit I balk slightly at paying $300-500 for a top-shelf item, when standard items are $100 or so.
