Largest possible Rimowa Topas to check

Hi!

Got the Rimowa Topas Titanium 32 inch model from Bloomindale's and thought this is the largest allowed size to check but friend of mine told me that the 30 inch model is the maximum allowed size not the 32 inch.

Can anybody confirm if 32 inch is allowed as a checked bag without any oversize charge?

Airlines measure by linear inches (height + length + width). The 32" Topas measures out to 64" or so. Most airlines will accept 62" at no additional charge - the Topas does not fit those regulations so if a checkin agent catches it you'll likely get charged extra.

I'm considering a 32" Topas also. I've been flying with a 32" Salsa for 2 years now and have never been questioned, no matter what airline, status, or cabin.

Does anyone ever get their bag measured and fined?
