suggestions for Mini-Deoderant for Travel

I've recently obtained some new travel products and bags to downsize my baggage footprint. I'm able to get nearly all of my toiletries into a Tom Bihn's 311 bag, except my old spice stick. I went to the local walmart, meijer and walgreens and the best they had were 0.5oz sizes, which were approximately 33% product and 66% worthless plastic packaging and air.

Also, I didn't see anything refillable or other alternatives when searching here or online in other places.

Anything in the travel community out there that beats the pants off the wasteful and overpriced 0.5oz sticks available from the major manufacturers?

Going to Australia anytime soon?

If so, Lynx (same as Axe) sell a specific product called "Voodoo"

It's exactly the same size as the standard Axe/Lynx spray cans (155mL), and thus above the allowed carry-on limits - however the can itself is only labelled as "100g".

I've had no trouble getting this through security probably hundreds of times in over a dozen countries. A few times it's been picked up on the x-ray and they look at it, but once they see the "100g" they let it through.

Did you try checking the "travel size" section of the toiletries aisles? I'm not sure about the stores that you listed but my CVS and some local supermarkets have areas with nothing but travel sized items. Overpriced for what you get but smaller packaging. For whatever reason the travel sized items aren't displayed with their full sized counterparts. Also, I occasionally find deodorant samples at my dermatologist's office. Even smaller than the "travel sized" versions & they take up minimal space in my kit.

Lush sells some solid and powder deodorants. The solid you could cut down to a size you like, the powders you can put in as small a container you want...

I always take the product in question out of its plastic case and slice off the amount I need to have for the trip.

My slice always fits in a tiny 2 inch x 2 inch zippy bag which weights next to nothing.

Deodorant is one of many products that can be sliced or in other words pared down to a smaller size.

The same method works for bars of soap/shampoo (LUSH etc) and for shoe cleaning products.

I'm wondering how a "slice" of the solid is applied without
the applicator plastic container.

My regular is not available in a travel size so I just pickup
a travel size of the "Strong enough for a man, but made
for a woman" stuff. :D

Good for you that TSA doesn't know weight from volume.

Several years ago there was a thread about this and someone suggested a deodorant "stone". I forget the details but it was small and I think available on Amazon. Perhaps someone can find the thread.

I believe you're referring to the Amazing Thai Crystal Deodorant Stone. Just be aware that it isn't an antiperspirant.

If you are always flying economy and too tall for it/uncomfortable in economy...consider going without deodorant/antiperspirant to at least guarantee yourself an empty seat beside you!

I have been struggling with this same issue for a while so I will explain what I did. As a disclaimer I do not sweat heavily so I use deodorant rather than antiperspirant. Problem is that they do not make simple deodorant in a travel size stick, I could only find antiperspirant.

So I took one of those empty .5 oz travel size containers (that really is a tiny amount) and fully emptied and cleaned it. I then took a slice off my full size old-spice deodorant (the kind in the red container) and put it in a small bowl and microwaved it for 5-10 seconds until it was melted. I then poured that into the empty .5 oz container and let it sit until it was firm again. End result is I now have travel deodorant and that container holds over 1 oz of it so it will last a little while now. A little warning, the antiperspirant seems to be oil or grease based so it does not melt nice, the deodorant is a glycerin based product and melts and pours very easy, so it you need a strong antiperspirant this technique may not work at all.

I have also started using the salt stone at home, the stuff appears to work pretty darn good and I do not smell even after a thirty minute run. Mine is not travel size so I may end up investing in a smaller one for travel and drop the deodorant completely.

Good luck!

Thanks. Which stone product did you get?

I found this one while at Walgreens looking for travel deodorant. They make smaller models for travel so I will probably end up ordering one.
