"Knockoff" Travelpro bags?
Hi all,
I just bought a 21" carryon from Marshalls, that appears to be from Travelpro. However, I can't find any evidence of this bag anywhere, and I'm afraid I've somehow bought a knockoff. It says it's in the "Sapphire Lite" line.
Anyone have experience with buying suitcases at discount retailers?

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3G: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 7_0_4 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/537.51.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/7.0 Mobile/11B554a Safari/9537.53)
I can't see Marshall's selling knockoff items.

I can't either. I think it must be a cheaper line that Travelpro makes just for discount stores like marshalls, tj maxx, etc. It's just weird that I can't find it ANYWHERE online. No reviews, nothing.

Sometimes, shops like TJMaxx carry manufacturer's salesman samples. These are usually samples (sometimes entire lines) that are used for focus group testing and then sent to clearance shops such as TJMaxx after the trials & meetings. Sometimes the actual test is via sale through these stores. Manufacturer's sometimes want to market test these bags in the general populace without diluting their brand and use discount stores as a place to retail. The test is how many people send these bags in for warranty and what parts failed. Different markets expect and require different things.
If you can't find the bag anywhere, then it might be a US or even International market sample or test product. This isn't necessarily a bad thing.

As I had said in one of the linked threads several years back, I have a similar 3pc set (containing 22" roller, laptop bag, and passport lanyard) that is of lesser than normal Travelpro quality. I could never find any reference to it anywhere, but I'm not convinced it's fake either. The construction seems very similar to their lower-end brand Atlantic (also frequently sold at Maxx/Marshalls). My guess is these "phantom" pieces are Atlantic pieces branded as Travelpro for mainland asian or other non-US/western markets, or possibly outlet-specific models.
