Despite my earlier critique I really do love following this thread, and offer my own system which has served me well on numerous business trips of 2-14 nights. As a professional I have some challenges as I always need to pack 1 pair of dress shoes as well as dress slacks and shirts for the office. Winter is definitely tougher as I have to choose between a long overcoat (more suitable for office) or ski-style jacket (more practical particularly for extra low temps and after work). Fortunately I rarely need to go from winter to summer on same trip (e.g. SF->UK->Africa) but it has happened!

Below is what I pack for a 1-2 week trip, obviously much less clothing for shorter trips (though the system remains the same as it is much easier to leave the non-clothing items packed & ready to go).

Bags:
  • 21" B&R (though I envy my wife's 22" Tumi). But considering a switch to the wider 20." Previously used a 22" TravelPro Crew but it started to fall apart after about 5 years of abuse.
  • Swiss backpack - everyone at my company seems to have one. I jam it full with a company laptop, personal ipad (for movies, etc), chargers & adaptors, liquid baggie, power bars, etc.
Tech:
  • 15" Lenovo & charger
  • 2017 ipad
  • Kindle
  • 4 port USB adaptor (has plugs to fit UK, UA & Euro)
  • Portable battery
  • Cords (2 apple, 1 USB C for earbuds, 1 fitbit)
  • Sennheiser wireless earbuds, Shure wired buds (can't sleep with those big over ear bose/sony headphones)
Shoes:
  • Athletic shoes (wear on plane)
  • Dress shoes (loafers)
  • ultra light flip flops if I have space
  • disposable hotel slippers in outer pouch of suitcase (in case airplane doesn't provide)
Clothes:
  • 5 dress shirts (folded, all cotton, suitable for hotel laundry)
  • 1 thin blazer (worn onto plane if no other jacket - otherwise packed into 21" hanging compartment)
  • 2 dress pants (usually 1 gray and 1 black or navy) & dress belt
  • 6 undershorts
  • 4 dress socks (stuffed in dress shoes)
  • 2 athletic socks (also stuffed in shoes)
  • 1 thick wool socks (can't sleep without them)
  • 1 athletic shorts & 2 tank tops (rarely used, much to my dismay)
  • 1 jeans (wear on plane)
  • 2 t-shirts
Optional clothes:
  • 1 compression socks (worn on plane for TATL or TPAC)
  • swimsuit
  • light weight sweat pants (wear in hotel room)
  • 1 pair casual twill pants or 1 pair cargo pants (depending on climate and length of trip)
  • scottvest - used to always bring it, but not as useful if i'm wearing jeans (still great for warm climates)
  • fleece or heavy coat - depending on climate at destination (always worn onto plane)
  • muffler, hat & gloves (stuffed in heavy coat)
  • ball cap
Toiletries:
  • I have a standard size vinyl dopp kit that holds all my meds, razors, etc. i have to carry everything I might need if I get sick because I sometimes go to countries where I can't buy meds (or arrive too late to go to CVS)
  • 1 quart size bag w contact lens solution, etc. (in backpack)
  • 1 quart size bag w travel size shaving cream and mouthwash (in suitcase). Occasionally UK or German TSA may hassle me for 2 liquid bags though usually I can swing it without discarding anything at security.
Other Tips:
  • Buy duplicate power cords to keep in your carryon so you don't have to find/pack every time (plus you may lose one and its nice not to rush out when you get home)
  • Ditto for dopp kit - much easier to have duplicate toiletries ready to go for each trip
  • Make it a point to refill mini pill bottles, razors, etc. right after you return home, so you are ready to go next time
  • If possible pack shirts that can combine with all your pants so you don't have to worrk about mismatching. Neutral slacks (black/grey) are best.
  • For longer trips just bite the bullet and go with hotel laundry (hopefully you can expense) - it is so worth it to never worry about delayed/lost bags.
  • Save empty plastic water bottle to refill at airport. Not worth bringing a nice one as it will inevitably get lost at some point.

A bit OT but the Ultimate Charger thread has been closed. Any thoughts on this charger? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...937451669.ul7w

Seems good if it does what it is purported to do but I am no expert.

It's a very competitive market. I got this for around USD5 and it's been working 18months+ no issue : https://www.ugreen.com/product/1397-en.html
