It is time for a new carry-on and it has been a long time since I needed one. Most of my trip are 5 days and I have the need to sometimes carry 1 possibly 2 suites.

I don't want to be one of those guys that is banging his bag trying to make it fit in the overhead. I am thinking of the Briggs & Riley U122SP (http://www.briggs-riley.com/category...Spinner_U122SP) or U175 the (http://www.briggs-riley.com/category...rment-Bag_U175)

Most of my flights are domestic. It seems like a good 80% of my flights are MD-80s or 737s. Really don't care for the Eagle segments because I know I am doing a gate check.

Any opinions or suggestions would be much appreciated.

If your flying is all domestic, you can go with 22". I am a big fan of B&R Baseline but will also concede that one can get away with a lesser quality carry-on that remains in your own care. Think, though, that one day you may have to gate check it.

I am not a big fan of spinners in this size. If you must have a roller, I'd go with two wheels. For my own travel I use a shoulder bag. But those are personal decisions. Good luck.

I'd look at BR and in addition Travelpro Platinum, if you gate check a lot. I wouldn't go 22" BR if flying a lot of MD-80. Ask those with expertise in this area here whether the specific case would fit. The exterior handles to take up a good bit of extra space. Probably good idea to go with a 20 and only two wheels in that case.

Can you get away with wearing one suit for traveling and packing the other? Or do you already wear one for traveling and then need to pack two more?

I picked up a 20" Transcend widebody (TU120XW) at Costco for $129 last year after they'd been discontinued. It fits just fine in the overhead bin, and it has a suit thingy in the lid. The Transcend is my go-to carry-on bag. It just fits in the overheads on the starboard side of an MD80 or both sides on the 737, so I wouldn't go with the 22". The lid has a suiter, which I've used to carry one suit. Since I work in tech, I only ever need one suit.

If you want a deal, the Costcos around me have the 20" Baseline B&R bag for $189, but it's only available in brown. I guess most people don't like the brown color, since it's been around since May! (Earlier this year, the B&R CEO posted that Costco doesn't sell the full line, and it's generally only discontinued pieces: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/18295049-post143.html. Same great bag and warranty, but it might not be the color you want.)

Finally, if you ever have to gate check (Eagle or otherwise), one of the things that I love about B&R is the peace of mind from the warranty. Although I've only been forced to check my Transcend (and its Baseline predecessor) a handful of times, I do like knowing that it's robust enough to stand up to baggage handlers, and that in the worst case scenario, I will just get warranty service.

You didn't say if you require wheels. I use a Red Oxx Air Boss when carrying suits and it fits on anything, including RJs.

A suit and a Tux will fit for me in the below bags, plus a bunch of other stuff and they fit every plane AA flies except an eagle. Have had 2 FAs admire the wheeled bag because the low profile fits so easily. very light weight. I am on my second one, they gave me a new one for free as promised. This and a backpack made 14 days in Shanghai in June.

Ebags says this bag is 21.5 inches long. Is it really 21.5 inches including wheels when it's standing up?
