I've tried all kinds of ways to pack suits/dress shirts but nothing seems to work as well as laying the suits and shirts into the case with the top hanging out one end and the tail out the other, packing everything else into case and then folding over the top and tail. There are still some wrinkles but that seems to be what works best for me

Do NOT roll ties. Very bad for them. It places a lot of stress on the very finely stitched silk (I presume you wear the good stuff). Also, they can get crushed very easily that way. I know this from my own experience and a tie maker has told me to stop rolling ties. Very good advice that I am glad to pass on.

Ideally ties are wrapped around shirts lengthwise with the shirts and ties being packed in an EC folder. Both come out just fine.

It truly depends on the fabric. I'm a big fan of the Eagle Creek cubes/envelopes and find it easier to pack and keep track of what's where (have different colors for different contents). That said, some things still get wrinkled, so I pack a little spray bottle of Downey Wrinkle Release, which helps. I've used it on my husband's suits with good result.

You are the only person who says that. Steaming is the best way to protect an expensive, tailored suit.
