Packable Day Bags/Backpacks

Primarily looking at bags that are "packable" within carry on luggage without taking up a lot of room, with an eye for aestetics.

Saw this Marc Jacobs bag today, it was very compact you could roll it up and it would take a very small amount of room in a bag.

Kind of pricey for what it was, its Barneys. But what else is out there. I saw the Tom Bihn backpack/packing cube Aeronaut

but it honestly looks kind of hokey and non-stylish to me (looking for something nice I can take in a city for a day to carry stuff). I have a messenger bag but I kind of prefer the look of a backpack.

anything else in this category that looks pretty nice?

I have two of these: http://www.rei.com/product/754685. Very compact when folded but reasonably generous in size. I used this and a messenger bag to carry everything I needed on a four-day trip to San Francisco in October.

Can this be squished and packed into another carry-on without taking up too much space? It does look like a nice bag.

I, too, am in the market for a packable day bag. I showed my wife the TB packing cube/backpack, and she just shuddered---said the thing looked too ugly.

That is a nice bag. I bought both that and the REI Flash 18 as I couldn't decide which I liked better at the time, but ended up really preferring the Flash 18 for my uses. Comparable size and weight, and although it doesn't self-stow it can be flipped inside out and used as a stuff sack in your larger luggage or compressed pretty tight itself with a couple rubber bands - it always goes along with me on trips. I use it for a day pack around town, personal bag on flights, cycling and hiking, and so on. I found that the pull-string access worked really well and the bag held its shape better when not packed full, especially in more active pursuits (likely due to the fact there is no extra fabric draping over the back in the form of a lid). The size is ideal, and the slim form makes it feel like I'm not even wearing a pack. Ended up giving the Travel Daypack away as a gift.

Actually, I just purchased this:

Eagle Creek Packable Daypack

It looks nice, and looks like it can pack away into something really small.

I was just in Eddie Bauer today and they are carrying packable day packs again. They looked pretty sturdy. They are selling them for $30 here in Canada so I'm guessing they would be going for something like $25 in the states. They aren't shown on the website yet but they come in an impressive range of colours (blue, black, khaki, and a bunch of patterned ones).

hi..
Weight of the bag is one more important,if u are going for a day. even for a short distance Make sure you buy a neutral color that goes well with most of your clothes A black or brown bag would be great for clothes of any color Even an off-white bag would be excellent for summer season Next consider the size of the bag While considering the size check your requirements for different occasions For short distances and less time you might just need a small purse.
