You are quite a ways from LAX. I remember there is (was) the Korea Town Plaza just north of Olympic.

Koreatown Plaza is still there. My place is right behind it. And there's a newer Koreatown Galleria right on the SE corner of Olympic/Western.

The truth is that I wasn't on the roof planespotting. I was photographing the moon and the lights around the area. More photos in this album:

http://rkkwan.zenfolio.com/p300005227

But I had my 70-200L with a 1.4x converter with me. And when the plane was directly south of me (perpendicular to its path), I could easily recognize it as a SQ 744. I then waited until it was way to the east to get the shot with the full moon.

I thought SQ12 arrive at LAX & SQ11 depart at LAX during the noon time, how come it looks like an evening to me? Is it because of the bad smog of the day...?

Good point. I looked at the pics again, and turned out it was a 744F. From flightaware.com, I found that it was SQ7884 from ANC.

Thanks for pointing it out.

From ANC? Are you sure? Looks like it's a 747 and the flight number suggests that its a SQ code share flight. I was not aware of any *A flights on a 747 to ANC.

It's a SIA Cargo 744F freighter.

Cargo? That might explain both unscheduled Anchorage and time of day.

What makes you think it is an unscheduled stop in ANC??

If they have enough cargo they'll be pretty heavy coming across and ANC is a pretty convenient place to stop and gas up.

Right. I should have used a compound sentence. Two disparate thoughts mashed together inappropriately. I meant that ANC is a city not in SQ's pax schedule. Poor choice of words

Since this thread was on the topic of cargo planes and ANC, I thought I would post this horrible picture I took at ANC this past June with my PDA.

EVA Airways is a Taiwanese carrier. I believe this is one of their MD-11's. As you can see, weather was rainy at about 8:30 PM.

I didn't get a real good picture of it, but my ride out of ANC was the US Airways Phoenix Cardinals A319.

From the observation deck at BHX:

EK 777-300ER powering out on an April day

(I haven't had time to go back since then - other photo work has taken precedence)
