camera help

I need a new point and shoot around $200-not too compact. I have lost too many small cameras. A nice mid size would be good. any suggestions.

DPReview has a good group review of what they call super-zooms here.

These cameras are somewhat above your price point but offer IMHO a better bang for the buck than the $200 cameras.

Another DPReview group review focuses on somewhat less expensive cameras. It can be found here.

Hope these help.

Cheers,
T.

Give a serious consideration to the GE X5 which is made by Fuji.
It was just introduced this late Spring.
Available for $140 with free shipping, no tax on Amazon. This is not a trash camera as I had expected. Two friends just purchased this and it is a bargain at this price.
Probably because it has a GE label.
The picture quality is much above the price level.
Some features:
14MP, 15x IS optical zoom(27-405mm), f3-5.2 with an optical viewfinder, multiple shooting modes including manual settings,Weight 13.4 oz less the 4AA batteries.
I especially like the optical viewfinder,AA batteries(always available), built in panoramic stitching and HDR feature.
Just a bit bigger than the pocket cameras due to the built in hand grip.

I have heard other positive comments about Fuji, so I might give them a try.

I bought a Panasonic TZ10 a couple of months ago. If you don't need the GPS a TZ7 is essentially the same camera. I have been gobsmacked with both the build quality and the pictures. The TZ7 is currently 188 on amazon and a real steal IMO.
