You people are all juvenile extremists whose views are already marginalized by your failure to recognize that the vast majority - no, make that the - overwhelming majority of Americans fully support these efforts to make us safer.

Sure, some mistakes might be made, but I am confident that everything will even out in several years.

FWAAA,

Good imitation of the supposedly retired Brian. Maybe we won't miss him after all!

I've decided to give the anti-freedom (Pro-Excessive Security?) crowd equal time in my posts.

But I'm not sure whether xyzzy got it.

good way to see other points of view!

after all, there are many sides to a given controversy.

I must have missed whatever Brian said. Can someone post/email the link?

If all these measures made us safer that would be a different story, and so many of us might be singing a different song. But the reality is these measures do not make us safer, they just make us THINK we are safer.

Not disagreeing with anyone that ID checks are getting silly all round - (some Hilton Hotel check-ins for example) but something amusing just occured to me.

By my count there are at least FOUR Flyertalk moderators posting above (one six times) including the thread starter, and one of this Forum's own moderators. (twice.)

Despite that I just can't see how this thread belongs by the widest stretch of any rubber band as to being remotely on-topic in THIS Forum!

OMNI yes, but unless we all work for Tucson City Hall surely this is as revelant to FT'ers as McDonalds reducing the price of a cheeseburger this Sunday?

This is not a shot at anyone above, please do not misunderstand - just a question - but would it not have normally have been moved to OMNI if a newbie posted it is my question I guess? I do not even think it is applicable to the Travel Security Forum.

Ducks quickly, and back to watching Friday night AFL football.

Hi Glen!

The answer is that In The News is for discussing a wide range of topics of interest to FlyerTalk members. Stories like this one, on ID checking, are of relevance and interest to FlyerTalkers.

Lots of news stories get posted in OMNI that would be completely acceptable here In The News. But threads here should start with the news story (preferably with a link), while that is not (obviously) required for OMNI.

Well as Flyertalkers eat Cheeseburgers (some of us FAR too many it looks like) may I start a thread here with the web link to the Sunday 99 discount offer? That has zippo to do with flying and points and miles, as does the Tucson City Hall story here.

The fact that some do not see the relevance makes it even more important that it is posted here. The continued harrassment (with NO increase in safety or security) will drive the airline industry either into the ground or to something we will not even recognize. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to all frequent flyers.

I was going to make a sarcastic comment, but mind numbing futility of all this has me so very disappointed..

However, must add that if a member of the public (non civil servant) actually walked off the streets of Manchester and wanted to enter the Town Hall of their own free will... i think the staff would be stunned and totally forget about asking for ID.
