LAX evacuated

At 8:30 p.m. EDT, MSNBC reported that LAX had been evacuated due to luggage scanning equipment finding a suspicious item in a suitcase. The bomb squad is on the scene. Not sure if this means the whole airport, terminal, or something in-between.

Employees and passengers were allowed back into the evacuated area about 4:36 p.m. after the Los Angeles Police Department's bomb squad found the item posed no threat, said Gaby Pacheco, an airport spokeswoman.

The suspicious item turned out to be tubs of jam surrounded by other articles, Pacheco said.

And a third:

http://www.cnn.com/2002/TRAVEL/NEWS/....ap/index.html

Is it just me or would the words: TSA... Evacuation... Stupidity.... trigger the response: LAX <ding! ding! ding!> on the $10,000 Pyramid?

Is it the smog that brings out the stupidity? Most people I have met from the LA area are pretty bright but there's something going on at LAX just just seems to make people drop about 70 IQ points...

As many times per week (or so it seems) that LAX is evacuated, this should almost be its own forum. News releases regarding the every other day evacuations could simply be posted every other day.

good one, ORD :-)

Can someone create a permanent link to the "LAX Evacuation Forum"?

I guess we'll have to ask the Moderators.

In the interests of Passenger convience and to minimize the impact these ongoing evacuation have had. We now will be moving to a scheduled evacuation system. This is will ensure each terminal will be evacuated on rotating basis.
The schedule is being determined at the moment but rest assured it will take into account all variables.
