Delta would codeshare on South African Airways flights from Atlanta and New York (JFK) via Johannesburg and Cape Town to Durban, Port Elizabeth, East London, and George, South Africa; Lilongwe and Blantyre, Malawi; Maputo, Mozambique; Windhoek, Namibia; Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania; Lusaka, Zambia; and Bulawayo, Harare, and Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

South African Airways would codeshare on Delta flights from Atlanta and New York (JFK) toMiami, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, Orlando, Washington D.C., Dallas/Ft. The carriers propose launching the services on January 31, 2000.

Delta's present African strategy has been to gain access to the continent by developing codeshare flights with partner airlines. At the present time, Delta has been approved to codeshare to 15 African cities, six of which currently have operational Delta codeshare service.

Cities are: Cotonou, Benin; Lome, Togo; Banjul, Gambia; Conakry, Guinea; Cairo,
Egypt and Johannesburg, South Africa. Delta will start codeshare service to Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and Abidjan, Ivory Coast, beginning December 1, 1999.

South African Airways, with headquarters in Johannesburg, is the leading carrier to, from and within Africa. The carrier operates more than 575 flights a week to major and secondary centers around the world with a fleet of approximately 50 modern aircraft. SAA has won a number of awards as the Leading Airline out of Africa. This view has recently been endorsed by Conde Nast Traveller, which named South African Airways as number two among the Top Long Haul Airlines For Leisure Travellers in its latest Reader's Travel Awards.
