Chicago Tribune: United, Delta top DOT list of longest tarmac delays in July

Five United Airlines flights in July left passengers stranded on the tarmac long enough to warrant investigation by the U.S. Department of Transportation, months after the airline was slapped with a fine over tarmac delays.

Airlines reported 11 domestic flights in which passengers had to wait on the tarmac for more than three hours in July, with the longest delay on a flight operated by Chicago-based United, according to a DOT report released Tuesday. Three of the 10 international flights waiting four hours or more were also operated by United.
