It's a 90 minute flight...can't we all just get along? If this was like SYD-LAX or something I could understand, but everyone involved is kind of at fault here...Mom could have taken the baby to the galley or something to simmer down for a few minutes, crazy guy in the chair could take a chill pill too.

I'm surprised there aren't MORE incidents of air rage. The demographics of flying have shifted radically, and you've got, what, four million people traveling by air every single day? Four million stressed out, uncomfortable people.

Why didn't the mother just put the tray up? If the person in front of you is complaining about the tapping, and you cannot get the child to stop (which I totally understand - children of that age just tend to do what makes them happy!), then get the tray out of the reach of the child and find something else to do.
I would hope nobody would intentionally hurt a child - I would guess that the pax ahead of her was frustrated and was hoping to make them as uncomfortable as they were by reclining....unfortunately, the child was hurt.
Lots of discussion on reclining, as usual. Looks like the poll is close to 50/50 as to whether someone should ask before they recline. I do, mostly because I do not know if someone has their tray down and has a drink or something on it. I do not normally recline, but I have no problem asking either. Some tall people are very uncomfortable when someone reclines, and I am ok with that.
Being courteous goes a long way to making the trip as comfortable as possible for all!
