The Royal Orchid Sheraton is another option. It's in a similar location to the Hilton. I believe there's a bit of a promotion on at the Hilton though so rates there are likely a bit cheaper.

If you are wanting a cheap hotel in a great location on the river, I can recommend this one: http://www.navalai.com/room.html
I found it on the internet last year and though I might give it a try and it was very nice. It is brand new and the rooms are themed nicely and have large bathrooms. There is a bar downstairs anda nice decking area over the river where you can enjoy a quality breakfast or just relax with a beer. There is also a quiet rooftop swimming pool and jacuzzi.
The staff were very very helpful and always smiling. I will definately be heading back there again and would recommend it to anyone.

We love the PENINSULA. With economic recession you can get negotiated rates if you send an email. They also might throw in some things like breakfast and airport transfer. The Peninsula is considered by some as the best hotel in the world. It's truly a sensational and very special hotel.

Arun Residence Bangkok
Remarkably, this inspired vantage point wasn't always so coveted. The 80-year-old building on Rattanakosin Island that now houses your suite stood abandoned at the end of a shrine-dotted alley until 2005, when it was reinvented as a five-room inn. The island was a lot more popular back in 1782, when King Rama I decamped here to establish Siam's new capital, and even more so when construction of the temple before you commenced in 1809. The soaring central spire of Wat Arun (Temple of the Dawn), which tops out at 259 feet, symbolizes Mount Meru, the spiritual center of Buddhist cosmology. Its four satellite prangs pay homage to the wind god Phra Phai and are covered in seashells and porcelain from the ballast of Chinese boats. Steep, narrow steps lead pilgrims to Arun's pinnacle, or you can forgo the strenuous hike and contemplate the temple's majesty from your own palatial digs.
