Don't know where you are looking. AA hotels has many 4 star hotels for under $200, some as low as $77.

Wednesday being a public holiday could have some effect as people could make a long weekend out of it. Other than that, I cannot think of anything either.

Yes Ao Nang. Was looking at Google, Booking, Agoda, Trip, Expedia. Anywhere not far from the beach. The Krabi Hotel goes for around 60 or so and The Panang the same. Even Peace. But now they are over a 100 each and even 200 per night at some sites.

I ran into the same issue trying to book something in Railay for this weekend. It's just busy and everything's sold out or very expensive.
edit: Looking at the usual portals, they all say that around 75% of all listed properties are not available for these dates. so that indeed explains the prices you're seeing.
