Three month visa.

My wife and I, both UK citizens over 50 years old wish to stay in thailand for 3 months early next year, what is the preferred option please, also what would be the process ?

tourist visa (now conveninent e-visa; everything online) for 60 days and 30 days extension at immigration office in Thailand
or
visa exemption (entry without visa) for 45 days, make a boarder run (by air or land transport) to a adjacent country and back to Thailand and get another 45 days

as for the latter, you might be asked when check in for the flight to Thailand to show a return or onward ticket, proving you are leaving Thailand within 45 days
