Safety in Phuket

Hi I am going to Phuket for the first time next month and staying at Karon Beach. I have been reading alot recently about all these violent incidents in Phuket lately and has me a little worried. They seem to be have taken place around Patong the vast majority of them. Does anyone have any DO's and DONT's about being in Phuket. I was in BKK last year and yes there were scammers around but I never felt really in any sort of harm or danger. I know one DO is to agree to taxi price before getting in. Is it a bad idea to carry around my iphone/credit cards around as it seems most of these incidents stem from theft. Should I just carry around cash and leave all my valuables in the hotel safe?

Never carryall of your credit cards, regardless of how safe the location. Even if you just lose your wallet you are in for a major headache.

I usually have one credit card and a days worth of cash when I'm out and about.
