tight (?) connection at BKK

I have these separately booked flights on this coming Sunday:

USM-BKK PG170 dep 6:20p arr 7:25p
BKK-KUL AK751 dep 8:20p arr 11:25p

I do have checked luggage that I will have to re-check. On my side is that Air Asia has online check-in so I can hopefully already have my boarding pass.

Can I make this? Will it be close, or am I easily safe?

[Edit: Okay, so I won't make it. How about the 7:05? Still too tight?]

This is going to be tight. You're having to go from a domestic Thailand flight connecting to an international flight. Keep in mind that BKK airport (sorry can't spell the proper name) is huge - it took me nearly 30 minutes to walk from one finger to another, and this was on the airside, although to be fair I was going diagonally across. The good news is that I assume that Bangkok Airways should land pretty much on time. Whether or not you can make it to the Air Asia check in with your checked baggage is a different story (don't forget, you'll have to clear passport control after that).

I believe AirAsia has a 45 minute cutoff for checking luggage. I don't see any way you collect a checked bag and re-check it in time.

Thanks guys; I will try tomorrow to re-book the USM-BKK leg for earlier in the day.

Okay, so there's a 7:05 PM arrival? Still too tight? The one before is 2:20 PM... :S

IIRC Thailand also has an exit tax that you have to pay at the airport. Not sure you'll be able to pay it before your domestic leg, so leave time for that as well. I would give yourself more time and take the earlier (2pm) flight.

It's no longer the case, BKK airport taxes are now included in the price of your airticket.

If you have any tax refund to claim, you'll need to allow extra time.

Depending on your travel budget and price sensitivity, you can always book Bangkok Flight Services to help to speed you through the process.
