Further devaluation of ROP: Classes T/K now excluded from GUP
I just refreshed myself on the ROP devaluation for redemptions, and then browsed to ROP Gold benefits.
I noticed a change to the details for using Gold Upgrade (GUP), where fare classes T/K are now excluded. This means Flexi Q or better fare must be purchased- usually these are expensive.

Up to 2 complimentary roundtrip upgrades* on THAI within the 2 year validity of standard Gold status. Upgrades are to the next higher class of service only. Double class upgrades are not permitted. Valid for all paid published fares excluding discounted Economy Class fares in booking classes T, K, S, G, V, W, L. Some promotional fares in other booking classes may also not be eligible for upgrading.

AKL-BKK-LHR return K fare was around NZ$2200 earlier this year, the Q fare mentioned by Flyingbiker is $NZ3100 - this $900 difference is nearly THB20,000.

Why not consider that by spending more then more miles are obtained going towards retaining Gold Status instead of losing it and not having benefits? This is my way of thinking as due to business reasons I am no longer flying 200-300 k miles per anum o Thai nearly all of which was in BC or FC, down to 100-150 k in 2 years mostly in BC but when in EC I buy the Class which gives 100% miles.

For two reasons;
1. The increased mileage earn for an economy traveller is only 10% on the most expensive fare classes. In no way does this small increase in earn offset the massive increase in redemption costs and removal of T/K fares, or the significant cost increases. Maybe for first/biz traveller the calculus is different.
2. Value and cost are different things, especially now I am a leisure traveller who will barely make the 50k re-qualification requirement.
