it depends on how much time for transiting you have
minimum 2 hrs in Bangkok and TG agent will check your baggage straight through from departure point
less than 2 hrs: Thai agent won't check through and you will have to cellect bags. probably resulting in failing to catch your onward flight with PG

Have 1hr35min connection time.
Land @ 3:20pm, Depart 4:55pm
According to Expertflyer, MCT @ BKK
TG-PG, Int -Dom is 1 hr 15 min.
If they let me check bags through, should be able to make the flight. If not, ill be screwed.
That 4:55pm flight is last direct flight from BKK to CNX for the day

There could be some issues with the schedule - I would give it some days. You are right if you look up flights for 12 Nov on TG website - but if you try search Momondo or Skyscanner there should be 2 Thai Smiles flight later in the day. Fares are also quite high for this domestic flight now; most likely it will drop later. Did you check schedule of Vietjet?
Anyway, the last PG flight to CNX seems to be at 5:05PM
As a last resort you can take a taxi to DMK and take a flight from there. It is a fairly easy and quick transfer. There is even a (free?) bus between the 2 airports

Thai (TG) and Thai Smile (WE) have many flights a day BKK-CNX, including many evening flights. However it seems the evening flights are sold out November 12. Perhaps this is because November 13 is Loy Krathong celebration.

Perhaps best to take a hotel night in Bangkok on arrival and fly up to CNX the following morning....
My understanding of MCT is that this is for tix on a single PNR, and so not valid to consider these with separate tix.
Technically you don’t have a connection at all on separate tix, so there is no protection and you are carrying the risk - unless you buy flexible/refundable tickets (at greater cost) or allow plenty of time between flights.

then you will make it only without checked baggage but not with checekd baggage.
TG staff abroad will not be allowed to check your baggage through onto PG in case of seperate PG-ticket for connection within / below 2hrs ground time at BKK

However, as an experienced pilot I held concerns over aviation safety. Sucking one of the larger lanterns into an engine would be troublesome and expensive.
