Really? People flying long-haul in J cannot pick their seats?
Quality of service is all rather subjective of course, but I find it baffling you can't select seats in J? I've been flying long-haul J for 3 years and have never not been able to pick seats. Have you tried Manage My Booking?

very strange!
you can always select your seat in J on international flight. only on TG you can only select within 24 hours before the flight!

As mentioned previously, the food on CX isn't much better and 9 times out of 10, the hard product is significantly worse on CX. To me this is the most important factor.

At least with TG you will get some sort of lay flat seat to relax on in a 2-2-2 config. The 'new' CX J armchair style seat (which is configured 2-3-2) really doesn't feel like a lot better than their PY product yet is typically priced at a significant premium to TG.

maybe you better want to change your travel agent as it seems your travel agent is also lacking either some kind of basic knowledge or about service attitude....

I never had trouble selecting my seats online for J flights with TG strangely at least for the past few years.

Tickets booked via United Airlines web page. Was able to select my seats on UA operated flights. Sent email to TG to request TG PNR. Got it. When I go to TG web page under Manage My Bookings I can see my flights, all say confirmed and that's about it. Can't select the seats.

Tried them again last night, AKL BKK in J , they ran out of champagne and fizzy water, the food was really average grade economy at best. They really are stripping the guts out of their premium service, not sure that it is sustainable to keep on doing this. I would be mightily disappointed if I had paid full fare for that offering.

50% empty J cabin and I only had 3 glasses, enough to take the edge off the truly awful food which was very similar to bwiadca s pic, dried out, burnt paper. BKK FRA tonight, will report with pics but my expectations are low and I suspect that my next trip north will be with SQ.

You also have an older aircraft to fly on, 777-200ER. I wonder when/if they will change this to a 777-300ER.

I've been flying TG F and J 4 to 5 times a month for the last several years. The service has never been as consistent as some other airlines, but generally very good and I haven't noticed any kind of a service deterioration.

I also booked via United and had to email TG to obtain my PNR for several reservations. Once they emailed that to me, I was able to log in via the TG website and had no issues selecting my seats for each one. In fact I changed my seats a few times too since I keep changing my mind! But you should be ale to do this.

Ok, I've just tried again. I have two reservations with TG. One is in economy and one is in business.

When I got to TG site and navigate to Manage My Booking, I'm getting message that advanced seat selection is not available and that I have to contact TG office.

I've entered my economy class PNR and under Additional Services I was able to select my seat on an international portion of the flight. The domestic part gave me message that advance selection is not available for that flight. Cool, I knew that.

I've saved the details and logged out. Then I did my business class PNR. Got the same message about inability to select the seat in advance.
Went to Additional Services, I could see my 3 flights and when I selected TG BKK-MUC tab I've got Seatmap unavailable.
BKK-MUC seatmap was unavailable, but on the next tab MUC-ORD on UA B777 I could see the seatmap.

So, I'm confused. I was able to select my economy seat on different PNR but not on my business class flights.
