FRA-BKK downgrade to 747

Changed my award ticket to be on a380 and found a 747 with ancient interior at the gate.

Not happy.

TG is one of the few airlines still giving F seats but what's the point if the quality is essentially modern j style or below.

Is this a permanent move?

Well, I would say, for the price you paid for this ticket (buyed miles) you sure get much more than what you paid for it... please stop whining...

1. As if there was a wide selection of other Star airlines operating First Class between Europe and SE Asia that is redeemable with Aeroplan miles.

2. I would hardly call even the 10-seat config "ancient".

3. "Modern J style or below?" You really ought to have stuck with J, then.

To call TG 747 F ancient and J style is not appropriate at all, whether it is the 9 or 10 seat configuration.

Of course, if the OP had stuck with J, the OP would have ended up with TG's slanty seats on the 747 equipment sub, instead of the A380's lie-flats. And I imagine we would have gotten a similar rant...

Also: is the OP not familiar with the term "TG'ed" used in this forum? Last minute equipment subs are par for the course...

Thai have actually posted a warning of these 747 replacements on their website.

Bitte beachten Sie, dass auf den folgenden Flügen voraussichtlich eine B747-400 anstelle einer A380 zum Einsatz kommen werden: TG920/21MAR14 & TG921/22MAR14, TG920/06APR14 & TG921/07APR14, TG920/15APR14 & TG921/16APR14, TG920/13MAY14 & TG921/14MAY14 sowie TG920/13JUL14 & TG921/14JUL14

Since the OP is being shot down, let me add my grain of salt.

I agree that those F seats are ancient first-generation solo seats, with disjointed cushions (no mattress), no privacy and tiny TV with poor avod. A far-cry from the recent F TG F seats on the 9F 747. An inferior product compared to competition and no better than some J seats (CX, SQ, ...).

But it is still F service and the nose of a 747 is still very nice compared to F in more recent aircrafts.

Actually they do put mattresses on these seats when it is bedtime.

Does anybody know the reason for the equipments changes?

Ops or low demand? Anybody knows the load factors on that route?

I checked MAY and JUN FRA-BKK-FRA and the booking engine gives me for everyday availabilty in all classes the cheapest fare buckets.

I specifically changed to that flight to get the a380. No, I had not checked to see if by chance they would change equipment. Never occurred to me.

Lastly these segments attract very high carrier surcharges on my award booking.

At the checkin desk there was a big banner placed with the A380 cabin photo. On checkin I was shown an a380 seat chart.

What's not to rant about?

one factor might be that TG has too many different aircraft types for the size of its fleet.

the fact it's an award ticket has reduced your 'whinge' position substantially
