Adding an additional leg (on a different ticket) to an existing PNR?

I have a CDG - BKK - KTM - BKK - (Stop over) - LHR reservation (all on booked TG). As part of my stop over, I'm looking to book a BKK - HKT - BKK trip (where the BKK - HKT flight departs a few hours after the KTM - BKK flight gets in and the HKT - BKK flight arrives a few hours before the BKK - LHR flight departs).

Would asking TG to combine the two itineraries into one:

a) be possible, and
b) offer any protection in the event of a delay / cancellation of any of the flights?

Thanks
