A few months back, Tim Love was offered 3x what he could make in a year if he would give up his NYC lease. So, he took the money and shuttered it there.

Interesting - I had heard the NYC rumor but his website still listed the NYC location last time I checked so I assumed it was untrue. I'm not a LD regular myself (WE is a different story).

The FW gossip I'm intrigued by, on the other hand, is that Hector (of Hector's on Henderson) has secured a Fort Worth location and is now in talks with his investors about expansion. I talked to Hector about this a couple of weeks and ago and he confirmed that it is true... if they can get the financing and other things worked out, he does plan to open both a northern outpost and one to the west (Fort Worth).

BTW, Tim Love is the challeger on Iron Chef this week. Even does his trademark team tuaca shot before cooking.

Our favorite Tex Mex in Fort Worth is at the Original on Camp Bowie (the refried beans alone are worth the trip).

Also, we love Mia's on Lemmon in Dallas as well as Primo's on McKinney. We've never had a bad meal at Uncle Julio's.

We've had mixed results with Chuy's.

I haven't tried Pappas Burgers in FW yet, but I've had it in Houston. Terrific if you like a burger that runs down your arm!

I'm curious which Julio's location you go to? I live walking distance to the one by the Tollway in Far North Dallas. I recall a decade ago or longer thinking it was some of the best Mex in town. These days, consensus among my neighbors is that it's gotten pretty ordinary and a bit overpriced.

I think it is a travesty that they brought Chuy's to Dallas. This belongs as an Austin tradition.

I've not had a bad meal at Los Vaqueros in Fort Worth. Not as good as Esperanzas, but pretty good nonetheless.

As for anyone thinking of trying Esperanza's, be warned that they are more of a Breakfast/Lunch/Brunch place, as they close at 6pm.

We usually go to the one on Lemmon. But, I've been to the one near you a few times this year and have had great food every time.

I do find them overpriced on their dinners, but love that you can still order a la carte to get exactly what you like. Or if you don't want to eat an enormous dinner. Not that many places allow that any more.

Dim Sum in Dallas?
 

I'm gonna ask... where in Dallas can I get dim sum? I have looked at Guidelive.com and it wasn't exactly too forthcoming with info.

I've poked around the restaurants on Carrier Parkway in Arlington and found nothing but a bunch of Vietnamese restaurants. I tried Haltom City, and found a lot of Vietnamese restaurants and one excellent Thai restaurant. Poking around in Plano didn't bring many results either.

To get good dim sum in the Dallas area, you need to drive to DFW airport and hop on a plane to another city. :p

Seriously, I've looked - been to a couple of places in Richardson suggested to me, one around Plano, a couple in Arlington. All were BLECH. I've found they are highly touted by folks who have not traveled and actually had DECENT dim sum elsewhere.

If someone finds a place, I'd love to know about it. One of the higher end Chinese restaurants in Addison used to do dim sum on Saturday/Sunday mornings and it was in the decent range... but that was years ago and it went downhill (and now I'm not sure if they do it at all).

Kirin Court is very good. I like it better than Maxim's but only because of crowds.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Arc-en-Ciel in Garland. ^
