As I get close to be my vacation. I was wondering how is constructuin in the Dallas-Forth Worth Area. My main concern look like will be the LBJ at U.S. 75. Is it that bad? The hotel I will be staying at is off LBJ near the Galleria. I will be coming from I-30. Should I take 20 to 35E. and then get back on LBJ. Thanks!!!

The LBJ/75 interchange, now called the "high five" by locals, has been under major construction for a few years. It can get bad, mostly around ruch hour, and early evenings - lane closures often start around 8 pm.

From 75, if you are heading to westbound LBJ and things are backed up at the high five, exit 75 at Coit road and take Coit to LBJ.

Coming in during those times, though, I-30 to LBJ may still be your best bet, since all the viable alternatives mean going thru downtown. Best alternate might be I-30 to I-35E to the Dallas North Tollway (75 cents) which intersects LBJ right at the Galleria.

In any case, while Dallas traffic can get bad, it's usually nothing compared to what you can get in, say, New York.

Enjoy your trip.

It should have read: Should I take 30 to 35 E, and then get back on LBJ. I will be coming from the east. Not good on reading maps..

If you are on I-30E, headed west, on your way to downtown Dallas, I would avoid the CBD and take 635/LBJ North to US-75 (Central Expressway). From my experience, DT drivers will go to 75 or the North Dallas Tollway and not go the longer way around to reach the northern suburbs, and Collin County (Plano, Frisco and Allen). It might be busy, but not like the 405 in L.A. or the Eisenhower in Chicago.

so you are saying that it is the best to take LBJ, and go through the construction, instead of taking 30 to 35E to the Toll Road, and get off at the Galleria?

Joining this discussion for the first time, I would say yes.

If you were to take 30 to 35E, this would take you directly into the heart of the beast-- the highly congested and obsolete highway network which brackets the Dallas' CBD. Travelling westbound on the LBJ through the high-five interchange isn't too bad; the biggest problems tend to be going north and south through the high-five on US75.

well I will be going west bound on the LBJ toward the Galleria. I will be getting of at the Galleria. Is that a hard exit to get off?
