IAH: Updated info TSA Pre for connecting int’l pax. What’s faster?

I connect through IAH fairly often international to domestic and always go upstairs. I usually have plenty of time, but it has been a bit chaotic the last few times. Is it faster to exit to arrivals? Does E have pre check? Maybe I just never noticed the signs. Couldn’t find any recent posts and my next connection might be tight.

Check the IAH logistics thread on the UA forum. There is no check-in / security at E right now due to construction. You can exit the customs area to the left and go out and down to the subway to B or C, or walk to D, and use pre-check there. I made the walk E - D in January, it is a couple of minutes to cross to D, I can't say whether it would be worth it. Maybe. I checked in at D in November, and pre-check was totally empty.

(I checked in at D because it was the first stop on the parking shuttle and traffic was terrible and I wanted to get off the crowded bus asap.)

Arriving on SQ 52 from MAN at 2:30pm on a Saturday (travelling in business class). The ticket says arriving in terminal E. I'm taking a Westjet flight to YYC which depart at 6:15pm from Terminal A. I'm a Canadian and have Nexus/Global entry. Travelling with carry-on only (no checked-in bag). Not familiar with IAH - looking at the map the terminals are at the opposite ends. I'm assuming I have enough time. What's the best way to get to terminal A from E? Thanks!

Best way?

The Subway, obviously 🙂

Down in the basement where most travelers don't even know that it exists. The original way to go between the terminals. Rather slow, but fun IMHO. And you have to look hard for the signs, because they're not easy to see and kind of hard to notice.

Of course these days everybody takes the Skyway which is the fastest way to go but with that much time on your hands you have plenty of time to even walk if you want to.

I take it when I have the time just for Old times sake 🙂

You will actually arrive in terminal D which is where all the other international airlines except for United arrive. United Airlines international arrivals are in E, but will get combined in the D E immigration area.

Say Hi to my brother when you get to Calgary 🤠

Terminal E Arrival Lanes Opening

Terminal E begins to end the long nightmare of its reconstruction.

https://www.fly2houston.com/newsroom...ove-experience

It says the departure lanes on the 2nd level to open before spring break 2025.

BA 195, the first of the two daily BA LHR-IAH flights, returning as BA 194 on IAH-LHR, on either the 789 or the 351.

New Express Bus Route IAH - Downtown

Houston Metro launched a new bus route (500) going from IAH (Terminal C) direct to downtown Convention Center / baseball stadium / light rail connections. Quite an improvement over the old 102 line (which will remain).

I've got a flight out of E, I have clear but not pre check.

Do E flyers go to TSA at Terminal D? Is there Clear there yet? Last time I went a few months ago there was no Clear.

Is it easy enough for me to get dropped off at C and go through clear?

HadesNL May 24, 2025 6:32 am

I can only tell on the 12th of June when i depart back to AMS via E.
After memorial day, i'm going to LGA but that is via C

Very easy to go from C to E, either on SkyWay or walk.

I don't have Clear so don't keep up with it, but I'm sure you can check on either their website or fly2houston.com/iah/

Thanks I just went through C and used clear and then used priority pass to eat at Landry's and then walked to E. Didn't want to risk Clear without pre-check not being available at the D/E gates even if they website says it's available now. Website was showing an 18 minute security line at the D/E gates too.

Terminal D Pre-Check

I've experienced full Pre-Check at Terminal D before. Yesterday afternoon - a typical weekday at 4:30 - there was no Pre-Check, just the "hybrid" where you get a colored laminated sheet but are forced in to the non-Pre security lines. The colored pass allows one to keep shoes and belt on and use the magnetometer, but one still has to unpack one's carry-on. Seems like these hybrid pre-check lines vary between airports, always adding confusion. This time my experience was accentuated by a TSA tender at the x-ray conveyor droning on and on, repeating monotonously the instructions in an indecipherable manner.

I went through Clear in Terminal C three days ago and separately asked two clear workers if they have Clear without pre-check open at the D-E gates and they both said yes.
